About
Babol Noshirvani University of Technology (BNUT) is a coeducational university uniquely located right at the heart of the Middle East in Iran, the most influential country in the region. Babol is considered as one the most populous counties in Mazandaran province with 219,467 people (79,837 households) according to 2012 census. The city is located approximately 20 kilometers south of Caspian Sea on the west bank of BabolRud River and receives abundant annual rainfall.
The university was founded as a Technical Teachers Training Institute in 1970 by a great benevolent and decent philanthropist, the late Seyed Hossien Fallah Noshirvani in Babol. In 1979, it was amalgamated with University of Mazandaran and subsequently operated as University of Mazandaran Faculty of Engineering. It was not earlier than 2005 that the process of independence from University of Mazandaran started and it was operated as Noshirvani Institute of Technology until March 2008. Thenceforth, it has been upgraded to Babol Noshirvani University of Technology.
The university now has 6 Schools, including School of Basic sciences, School of Chemical Engineering, School of Civil Engineering, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, School of Materials and Industrial Engineering and School of Mechanical Engineering. It has also several interdisciplinary research groups and centers, namely Nanotechnology, Fuel Cell, Sea-Based Energy, High Voltage Substations, Intelligent Systems, Metal Forming and Renewable Energy.

Coordinating and handling the scientific and technological activities at BNUT, office of research and technology performs the following responsibilities:
- Set and promulgate research policy
- Evaluation of the national and international projects
- Foster new and interdisciplinary research initiatives and collaborations
- Evaluation of the research papers submitted to the national and international conferences
- Approve the annual appointments and salaries of the University's Academic Staff-Research members.
- Manage research enterprise within the schools
- Provide training and communication to the members of the research community
- Serve as cognizant Dean's Office for Independent Labs, Institutes and Centers
- Oversee graduate student funding, in particular with respect to graduate assistantships and fellowships on research and training grants
- Promote the school’s areas of priority for research funding with internal and external audiences
- Foster and facilitate proposal development and promote interaction for large multi-disciplinary research opportunities
- Maintain effective links with government departments, authorities, business, commerce and industry organizations relevant to the schools research activities
